       Migraine Treatment Breakthrough

DSTV E News

SABC 2 Breaking News

A team of Dutch researchers has debunked previous theories about the cause of migraine pain, and proven that this pain does not originate inside the brain. Specialists and doctors can read this breakthrough article published by Schoonman et al (Brain 2008). There is also an interesting television interview and informative newspaper coverage on the subject. This proves the assertions of Dr Shevel, who for many years has firmly maintained that migraine pain is not caused by the blood vessels in the brain, but by the more superficial branches of the external carotid artery, on the outside of the skull. Although sufferers may sometimes feel as though the pain is originating inside their skull, it is in fact caused by those parts of the face, head and neck that lie outside the skull. Fortunately for headache and migraine sufferers, this means that the structures that cause this pain are easily accessed and can be treated successfully and often cured without medication.

Tension Headache Treatment Breakthrough

The development by Dr Shevel of a minimally invasive surgical technique for permanently eliminating muscle trigger points has meant that there is now a surgical procedure for the prevention of muscle tension headache. Although this procedure is used for tension-type headache, most migraine sufferers also have tender muscle trigger points that require treatment for the best results to be achieved.
